Privacy Policy

kami ("the app") is an interactive origami-folding simulator available as a web app, an installable Progressive Web App (PWA), and an Android app distributed through Google Play. This policy explains what data the app processes and why.

1. Who is responsible

The app is developed and operated by an independent developer ("we", "us"). For any privacy question, contact: max.vvase@gmail.com.

2. Data we do not collect

• We do not require an account, sign-in, or registration.
• We do not ask for your name, email, phone number, or contacts.
• We do not collect, store, or transmit your precise location.
• We do not sell your data or share it with advertisers.

3. Device sensor data (processed locally)

To animate paper folding in response to your device, the app reads:

• Device posture / fold angle (foldable phones and laptop lids) via the Device Posture and Viewport Segments APIs.
• Motion / orientation from the accelerometer, when available and permitted by your device.

This sensor data is processed entirely on your device, in real time, to render the animation. It is never transmitted to us or any third party, and it is not stored.

4. Analytics (only with your consent)

Across every version of the app — web, PWA, Android (via the Play Store app), iOS, and macOS — we use PostHog (hosted on PostHog's EU Cloud, in the European Union) to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. Analytics is off by default everywhere. The first time you open the app you're asked to opt in; nothing is sent to PostHog until you tap "Allow". You can change or withdraw your consent at any time via the "Analytics preferences" option in the app's Settings panel, which reopens the same prompt.

When enabled, analytics collects:

• Anonymous usage events — e.g. fold_triggered, paper_reset, undo_action, panel_toggled, keyboard_shortcut, outbound_link, app_open.
• Standard technical data PostHog records: approximate (coarse) region derived from IP address, device/browser type, and screen size.

PostHog acts as our data processor. Your consent choice is remembered using your browser's/app's local storage, not cookies — nothing is set until you opt in, and nothing is set at all if you decline.

A note on China: connections to PostHog's servers, like most non-China-hosted services, may be blocked or throttled by the Great Firewall for users without a VPN. This isn't something we can engineer around — it means analytics from mainland China is likely undercounted, not that we're targeting or excluding it.

5. Legal basis

Where the GDPR (EU) or KVKK (Türkiye) applies, our legal basis for analytics is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a); KVKK Art. 5). Sensor processing for the animation happens locally and never leaves your device.

6. Data retention

We retain analytics data only in aggregate within PostHog, subject to PostHog's retention settings. We hold no personal database of our own.

7. Children

The app is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.

8. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. GDPR/KVKK), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your data, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not maintain user accounts or store personal data ourselves, the primary control is the analytics consent toggle in the app. For any request, contact max.vvase@gmail.com.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
